where it all began

where it all began
So where did our story begin? Lets go back to day zero. It started with with Jackie. If you’re local to Bude, you might know her as Bude Buyers Club’s affectionately named ‘Bog Roll Lady’ – not that we’d ever call that to her face of course. And ReFILL Shop really became a natural extension […]

And then there were two

Here’s a face you all know! The driving force of A Greener Bude, super green warrior Deb. A Greener Bude is an organisation made up of likeminded environmental groups, organisations, businesses and individuals working together towards sustainable tourism and a circular economy in Bude – an exemplar town in so many ways, but no one […]

Shebfest 18

More chatting and drinking wine, gin, cider …. and a chance meeting with like minded Rachel (aka among other things, licensed victualler of The Barrel Bude ) at Shebfest and the seed that was ReFILL Shop had taken root. That same night, Deb posted on A Greener Bude’s FaceBook page. Would this work? Who wants […]

Karen wants to help!

Karen was one of the first responders to Deb’s call to action on FaceBook saying ‘wouldn’t it be great if…’. When exactly they started talking shop is a little hazy. It was probably a St Petroc’s fundraiser night at AnMor and there may have been cider involved. There definitely was cider.

passionate about plastic waste

Jackie and Genevieve met at a nutritional course in 2017 and realised they shared a keen interest in environmental matters. After chatting about running an alternatives to plastic website and blog, the conversation naturally progressed to a zero waste shop and Gen has been on board from day one. The first time they met to […]

Budelicious!

Budelicious!
If you attended this local food fair, it’s likely you were accosted in the foyer by Jackie, or Jackie’s husband Paul – “fill in this questionnaire” they said. So you did. And the response was over whelming. Bude wanted a plastic free shop. Eek! The momentum really gathered speed, with Deb, working the main hall […]

Hello! Is it me you’re looking for?

So after the semi-fame a write up in the Bude & Stratton Post brought the (still theoretical) shop,¬†things really took off. ReFILL was exactly the kind of project local artist Jodie had been looking for. Jodie knew Deb, via A Greener Bude, who arranged for Jodie and Sue to come and meet the rest of […]

It’s official!

It’s official!
After finding out how fantastically beneficial to everyone social enterprises are (Jackie even went on a course!), we decided a Community Interest Company was the best way to serve Bude. We even registered with Her Maj to make it all above board and professional!

Fundraising begins!

Money raised Crowdfunder 100% So now we’d told everyone we were going to do it, how were we going to afford it? Aggh. ¬£12,500 to raise, just to open up shop. We set up a crowdfunding page to set the ball rolling… https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/refillshopbude1

We’re YouTube megastars!

We’re YouTube megastars!
Ok, well perhaps not quite, but those not camera-shy among us put a little video together to raise awareness of our project, and to raise the much needed funds Creds go to Coral Diffey’s editing service, for putting together such a splendid vid, whilst managing us superstar movie divas (dahling!)

MORE FUNDRAISING

MORE FUNDRAISING
Wow, who knew Bude loved cake so much? We raised a whopping load of dosh at our pop-up coffee morning take over, and kick-started the rush on sponsored hoppers – who knew Bude loved gravity-fed hygienically sealed food dispensers so much? Thanks Butterbun for allowing us to take over your cafe and Ali of CookSimplyCook […]

ANOTHER WEEKEND SPENT FUNDRAISING (a)

ANOTHER WEEKEND SPENT FUNDRAISING (a)
Two events for the price of one today: the first a dry run on the silent disco (thanks St Petroc’s – sorry we [Jackie] set off the fire alarm with our [her] crazy DJ effects). If you want to know how well that went, you’ll have to read our book; and when we’d sort of […]

ANOTHER WEEKEND SPENT FUNDRAISING (b)

GUESS WHAT WE DID TODAY? MORE FUNDRAISING!

GUESS WHAT WE DID TODAY? MORE FUNDRAISING!
Now this is our kind of fundraiser – where you just turn up and stuff yourself with delicious Sri Lankan faire. Felt a bit guilty that those lovely chaps at Temple did all the hard work (thanks Temple!). AND we rearranged their tables (again). You missed a real treat if you didn’t make it. Batteries […]

ITS THE FINAL FUNDRAISER

ITS THE FINAL FUNDRAISER
Make or break today! Will we hit target? Anyone who was anyone dusted off their glitter balls and headed to Rosie’s for our finale silent disco. The most hilarious and bewildering night ever with Debs on channel 80’s balllads and Sue raving to Channel Wedding Party Songs we had a blast. And at 9pm when […]
